About Philip Bruce
Meet Philip Bruce
Life can sometimes feel more challenging than it needs to be. You might be experiencing anxiety, feeling overwhelmed, or finding yourself stuck in patterns that don’t make sense. Relationships can feel difficult—maybe you unintentionally push people away, or find yourself trying to please others to keep the peace. You might feel on edge, disconnected, or emotionally charged in certain situations, but you're unsure why.
You may have gone through difficult experiences—whether it's a challenging childhood, a tough breakup, a stressful job, or a situation that left you feeling powerless. You might not label it as "trauma," but something just feels off.
These feelings can show up in your everyday life as:
✔️ Overthinking and self-doubt, questioning your actions and words
✔️ Struggling to relax or feel at ease, even when there’s no obvious reason for tension
✔️ Pushing through exhaustion or burnout, finding it hard to slow down
✔️ Feeling emotionally numb or disconnected, as if you're observing life rather than living it
✔️ Avoiding conflict at all costs, or having trouble saying “no”
✔️ Being overly self-critical, feeling like nothing you do is ever enough
If any of this sounds familiar, you're not alone. These reactions are often your mind and body adjusting to past experiences—they don't mean something is wrong with you.
Therapy can help you understand where these feelings come from, untangle them, and shift the patterns that keep you feeling stuck. It’s not about reliving the past, but understanding it in a way that helps you feel lighter, calmer, and more in control.
With approaches like EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Schema Therapy, therapy offers a safe space to explore what’s beneath the surface, regulate emotions, and build self-trust and confidence.
If you’re ready to stop feeling like life is harder than it should be, therapy can help you find a path forward.

Starting therapy can be a scary first step, and you might be reaching out for help with something you are struggling with right now. You may be searching for an EMDR Therapist for trauma and anxiety or for an IFS Therapist to help with patterns in your life and that are impacting you now in the present. I can help you make some changes now. You may not be coming to me because of the past, but because of how the past is impacting you now in the present, and stopping you from doing things in the future. You might be struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, trauma, PTSD, low self-esteem, stress, pain, long-term health conditions, brain injuries, or being autistic or ADHD in a world that is set up for neurotypical people and that can feel invalidating for neurodiverse people. My approach is that I believe that often, what we are struggling with now in the present has its roots in the past. Therapy is not here to blame people for what has happened, but I want to help you understand how your nervous system got to be the way it is. As a specialist trauma therapist I work on helping you overcome anxiety and depression and move forward in life. Through psycho-education and the therapies I am trained in, we can help to heal the past, and in turn help you now in the present and in the future. What do you want to be doing less of or more of? What is preventing you from doing this? My job is to help you with this and to reduce the impact of past experiences. Perhaps you have been recommended to have EMDR therapy or Schema Therapy. You may have been in mental health services and received therapy that didn't suit what you wanted and made you feel like you were failing at therapy. You may have sought help and been told that the service didn't work with that area. You may be looking for a short term intervention to help or you are looking at longer term therapy with EMDR, IFS Therapy, or Schema Therapy to help heal the past. If this is you or if you are looking for help with something that is not covered here, then I can help you to move forward to feel better now in the present and in the future. Internal Family Systems therapy focuses on understanding and healing the different parts of the self. Schema Therapy is an integrative approach designed to help individuals understand and change deeply rooted patterns thinking, feeling, and behaving, known as schemas. Developed by Jeffrey Young, it combines elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy, attachment theory, and emotion-focused therapy.
This therapeutic method is particularly effective for those with chronic issues, as it addresses the underlying emotional and cognitive issues that contribute to their struggles. By exploring and reshaping these schemas, clients can develop healthier coping strategies and improve their relationships.
I offer Schema Therapy online and also face to face in Corsham, Wiltshire.
