How Therapy Can Help You

Feel overwhelmed, stuck, or weighed down by experiences you can’t seem to shake?

You’re not alone — and you don’t have to keep carrying this on your own.

I’m Philip Bruce, and I support adults and adolescents who want to feel calmer, more confident, and more at ease with themselves, whether they’re dealing with stress, past experiences, or feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns.

Whether you’re coping with anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, school issues, perfectionism, or longstanding patterns that keep repeating, we can work together to make sense of what’s happening and help you move forward

You may have gone through difficult experiences, whether it’s a challenging childhood, a tough breakup, a stressful job, bullying in school or the workplace, or a situation that left you feeling powerless. You might not label it as “trauma,” but something just feels off.

These feelings can show up in your everyday life as:

✔️ Overthinking and self-doubt, questioning your actions and words

✔️ Struggling to relax or feel at ease, even when there’s no obvious reason for tension

✔️ Pushing through exhaustion or burnout, finding it hard to slow down

✔️ Feeling emotionally numb or disconnected, as if you’re observing life rather than living it

✔️ Avoiding conflict at all costs, or having trouble saying “no”

✔️ Being overly self-critical, feeling like nothing you do is ever enough

If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. These reactions are often your mind and body adjusting to past experiences; they don’t mean something is wrong with you.

Therapy can help you understand where these feelings come from, untangle them, and shift the patterns that keep you feeling stuck. It’s not about reliving the past, but understanding it in a way that helps you feel lighter, calmer, and more in control.

What Working With Me Looks Like

Whether we meet online or in person, therapy with me is designed to help you feel supported, steady, and clear about the direction you’re moving in. I offer online and therapy and face to face therapy to adults and adolescents across the UK, tailoring the work to your needs, pace, and goals.

My approach is guided by a few core principles:

A sense of safety and steadiness

Change happens when you feel safe enough to explore what’s going on, not when you’re pushed or rushed. Sessions are paced carefully, with close attention to how your nervous system responds, helping you feel more settled and grounded as the work unfolds.

Curiosity rather than judgement

You don’t need to have the “right words” or make sense of everything straight away. Therapy is a space where all parts of you are welcome, including the parts that feel unsure, protective, or hard to understand. The focus is on curiosity and understanding, not criticism.

Working together, at your pace

Therapy is a collaborative process. We decide together what feels most helpful, whether that’s short-term support, deeper trauma-focused work, or a more intensive approach. You remain in control throughout, and your aims guide the work we do.

Practical support alongside deeper change

Some sessions focus on grounding, regulation, and coping with day-to-day stress or anxiety. Others may involve EMDR, IFS, Equine Psychotherapy or other trauma-informed approaches to help shift long-standing patterns. The work is flexible and responsive, adapting moment by moment to what you need.

If you’re finding that life feels heavier or more exhausting than it should, therapy can help you feel more at ease, more connected to yourself, and clearer about the way forward.

Anonymised Examples of Client Progress

The following examples reflect common themes clients bring to therapy. Details have been changed to protect privacy.

“I’m no longer constantly bracing for something bad to happen.”

Before
A client in their 30s arrived feeling chronically on edge, struggling with sleep, and avoiding conflict at all costs.

Therapy
We worked with EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to process unresolved traumatic memories and strengthen their sense of inner safety.

After
They reported being able to relax for the first time in years, sleeping through the night, and expressing their needs without fear.

“I finally understand why I react the way I do.”

Before
A high-achieving professional felt burned out, anxious, and trapped by perfectionism.

Therapy
Through Schema Therapy and DBT, we identified long-standing patterns rooted in early experiences and began reshaping their self-expectations.

After
They described feeling lighter, more confident in setting boundaries, and able to rest without guilt.

“I can be kinder to myself now.”

Before
An adolescent client struggled with intense self-criticism, emotional shutdown, and panic following past trauma.

Therapy
Using Internal Family Systems (IFS) and DBT-informed grounding techniques, we gradually built internal trust and reduced shame-driven patterns.

After
They developed a more compassionate relationship with themselves, experienced fewer panic episodes, and became more open with loved ones.

Online & face to face Therapy & Support

Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy is an integrative approach designed to help individuals understand and change deeply rooted patterns thinking, feeling, and behaving, known as schemas. Developed by Jeffrey Young, it combines elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy, attachment theory, and emotion-focused therapy.

This therapeutic method is particularly effective for those with chronic issues, as it addresses the underlying emotional and cognitive issues that contribute to their struggles. By exploring and reshaping these schemas, clients can develop healthier coping strategies and improve their relationships.

I offer Schema Therapy online and also face to face in Corsham, Wiltshire.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a powerful approach to help clients address trauma, anxiety, and other emotional challenges. I can provide individual EMDR therapy sessions tailored to each client’s unique needs. I also use attachment-informed EMDR which can help change current problems using an attachment focused framework.

I offer EMDR Therapy face to face in Corsham, Wiltshire and online.

Internal Family Systems Therapy

Internal Family Systems therapy focuses on understanding and healing the different parts of the self. I can guide you through this transformative process, fostering self-awareness and emotional healing. A key part of this therapy is the belief that there are No Bad Parts and that all parts are welcome, even if they are causing issues in our daily life.

I can offer IFS Therapy face to face in Corsham, Wiltshire and online.
