Online EMDR Intensives UK

Focused online EMDR therapy across the UK

Online EMDR Intensives are one form of Philip’s broader Intensive Trauma Therapy service.

This EMDR-focused half-day or full-day pathway is offered online across the UK where clinically appropriate, with separate preparation, carefully paced processing, planned breaks and follow-up. See the main service page for package details and prices.

What is an EMDR intensive?

A focused EMDR format designed to create more time and continuity for trauma-focused work.

EMDR therapy is often offered as weekly sessions over a longer period of time. This can be a steady and supportive way to work through trauma, especially where the work needs to unfold gradually.

An EMDR intensive offers a different structure. Instead of meeting for a shorter weekly session, the work is arranged as a half-day or full-day online intensive within the broader Intensive Trauma Therapy pathway, with a separate preparation session, breaks and follow-up.

This format may be helpful when there is a clear trauma-related issue, memory, trigger or stuck emotional pattern that you would like to work on in a more concentrated way.

An EMDR intensive is not about rushing trauma work. It is about creating protected time, careful preparation and a clear focus, where this feels clinically appropriate.

Visual explanation of what EMDR Intensives are

Who might online EMDR intensives help?

Online EMDR intensives may be helpful where there is a clear trauma-related issue, memory, trigger or emotional pattern that you would like to work on in a more focused way.

Recent or single events

Focused EMDR work for a recent event, accident or frightening experience that still feels difficult to process.

Medical or birth trauma

Support for difficult medical experiences, procedures, diagnosis-related trauma or birth trauma where EMDR is clinically appropriate.

Workplace trauma

EMDR intensive therapy for a specific workplace incident, professional experience or event that continues to feel distressing.

Specific memories or triggers

Focused work with a particular memory, trigger, fear or emotional response that feels hard to move through.

A stuck point from previous therapy

Support for an area that has already been explored but still feels unresolved, emotionally active or difficult to integrate.

Trauma, anxiety or overwhelm

EMDR-focused support where a clear issue is contributing to anxiety, distress or a repeated nervous system response.

An online EMDR intensive is always considered individually. The first step is a conversation about what you are hoping for, what feels manageable and whether this format is likely to be supportive for you at this point.

Who it may not be suitable for right now

Online EMDR intensives are not suitable for everyone, and they may not be the safest starting point if life currently feels very unstable, overwhelming or unsafe.

A more gradual approach may be more supportive if you are currently in crisis, struggling with high levels of dissociation, using alcohol or substances heavily to cope, or finding it difficult to manage day-to-day life.

This does not mean that EMDR or trauma therapy cannot help. It simply means that additional preparation, weekly therapy or another form of support may be a safer place to begin.

An online EMDR intensive is never booked automatically after an enquiry. Suitability, preparation, safety and support are always considered before moving ahead.

Half-day and full-day online EMDR intensives

EMDR may be the main processing approach in a half-day or full-day intensive when assessment suggests it is appropriate.

Before

Preparation for online EMDR

A separate assessment and preparation session establishes the focus, explores suitability and supports grounding before the intensive.

During and after

Processing, pacing and integration

The half-day or full-day online intensive allows focused EMDR work with planned breaks and closure. A separate follow-up session supports integration.

The weekday full-day package is £1,100, twice the £550 half-day package. See Intensive Trauma Therapy packages for full details, limited Saturday morning availability and booking terms.

How online EMDR intensives work

Online EMDR intensives are planned carefully. The process includes an initial conversation, assessment, preparation, focused EMDR work, breaks and follow-up, so the pace and structure can be considered before moving ahead.

1

Initial consultation

The first step is a free 15-minute consultation. This gives us time to briefly discuss what you are looking for, whether an online EMDR intensive may be worth exploring, and what the next step might be.

2

Assessment and preparation

If intensive EMDR seems appropriate, we will complete a fuller assessment and preparation process. This helps us agree the focus of the work, consider safety and prepare for the EMDR process before the intensive session is arranged.

3

Planning the intensive

Together, we will plan the half-day or full-day online EMDR format and practical details such as privacy, online access, breaks, grounding and support around the day.

4

The EMDR intensive session

The intensive itself provides protected time for focused EMDR therapy. The work is structured and paced, with breaks and grounding included rather than added as an afterthought.

5

Follow-up and integration

After an EMDR intensive, there is time to reflect on what has shifted and what support may be helpful next. Processing can continue afterwards, so follow-up and integration are an important part of the process.

An online EMDR intensive is not booked automatically after an enquiry. Suitability, preparation and safety are considered carefully before any intensive session is confirmed.

Online EMDR practicalities

Online EMDR intensives are carefully prepared before the session takes place. We will talk through the practical details in advance so the work can feel as steady, private and supported as possible.

Private space

You will need a private space where you are unlikely to be interrupted, with enough time around the session to settle before starting and pause afterwards.

Stable connection

A reliable internet connection, a charged device and a comfortable screen position are important. We will also agree what to do if the connection drops.

EMDR set-up

The EMDR process will be explained and prepared for before the intensive. We will agree how bilateral stimulation will be used online in a way that feels manageable.

Breaks and grounding

Breaks are built into the intensive. You may want water, something grounding nearby and a comfortable place to sit during and between parts of the work.

It can be helpful to keep the rest of the day gentle where possible. EMDR processing may continue after the session, so time for rest, reflection and integration is important.

Philip Bruce, trauma-informed psychotherapist

Why work with Philip?

Philip Bruce offers EMDR therapy within a careful, trauma-informed and relational approach. Online EMDR intensives are planned around assessment, preparation, pacing and safety, rather than simply extending a standard therapy session.

EMDR is recommended by NICE guidance on PTSD for adults in specific circumstances. The intensive format is a way of structuring EMDR therapy in a more concentrated way, with suitability and preparation considered carefully.

EMDR-focused

The intensive format is centred around EMDR therapy, with preparation and pacing built into the process.

Carefully assessed

An online EMDR intensive is only arranged after suitability, safety and support have been considered.

Trauma-informed

The work is approached with care, attention to the nervous system and respect for what feels manageable.

Online and structured

Practical details such as privacy, online access, breaks and grounding are planned before the intensive takes place.

The first step is a free 15-minute consultation to talk briefly about what you are looking for and whether an online EMDR intensive may be appropriate to explore.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an online EMDR intensive?

An online EMDR intensive is a more concentrated form of EMDR therapy delivered in a half-day or full-day online intensive within the broader trauma intensive service. It includes assessment, preparation, structured breaks and follow-up, so the work can be carefully planned and paced.

How is an EMDR intensive different from weekly EMDR therapy?

Weekly EMDR therapy usually takes place in shorter sessions over a longer period of time. An EMDR intensive creates a longer protected space for focused trauma work, which may offer more continuity when there is a clear issue, memory, trigger or stuck emotional pattern to work on.

Are online EMDR intensives suitable for everyone?

No. Online EMDR intensives are not suitable for everyone, and they are not automatically arranged after an enquiry. Suitability, safety, stability, support and preparation are considered carefully before deciding whether this format is appropriate.

Can online EMDR intensives help with recent or single-event trauma?

They may be helpful where there is a recent event, single experience or clearly defined trauma-related focus that still feels distressing. This will always depend on individual circumstances, including what feels manageable and clinically appropriate.

How long is an online EMDR intensive?

The online EMDR format may use a dedicated half-day morning or full day, with planned breaks. A separate assessment and preparation session and a follow-up and integration session are part of the pathway. See the main Intensive Trauma Therapy page for package details.

Is online EMDR safe?

Online EMDR can be suitable for some people when it is carefully assessed, prepared and delivered. Before an online EMDR intensive is arranged, practical details such as privacy, online access, grounding, breaks and support are discussed.

What happens after an EMDR intensive?

After an EMDR intensive, there is time to reflect on what has shifted and what support may be helpful next. Processing can continue after the session, so follow-up, rest and integration are an important part of the process.

Could Intensive EMDR Therapy be right for you?

If you are considering online EMDR in a focused format, the first step is a free suitability consultation.

We can discuss whether EMDR is clinically appropriate and how a half-day or full-day pathway would be prepared and paced. For package details and prices, see Intensive Trauma Therapy.
